Ballybofey Big Birthday Bash

It’s 400 years since a charter first set up a market in the historic town of Ballybofey. To mark this amazing anniversary, Ballybofey is proudly celebrating with a range of cultural and heritage events, including: a Hiring Fair re-enactment; a mini-train ride courtesy of the Donegal Railway Heritage museum; vintage vehicle shows; an Irish coffee competition; street dance performances; a children's tractor run, and much much more.

The Disappear Here International Film Festival returns to the village of Ballyliffin for its third year. This increasingly popular event 3-day event celebrates independent film-making from all corners of the country, and from around the world. It has developed into a thought-provoking and diverse showcase of all the industry has to offer. The festival features screenings, industry workshops and masterclasses, children's films, and lively post-screening interviews and debates.

Traditional Boats of Ireland – The Dónal Mac Polin Collection

This collection documents and highlights the splendour of the disappearing boat-building tradition around the Irish coast.  Based on extensive maritime history research this exhibition celebrates a variety of boats. These include currachs, drontheims, yawls, cots, hookers, punts, flats and skiffs.

Wainfest- Arts and Book Festival for Children!

Wainfest is an annual arts and book festival dedicated to children across Donegal.  ‘Wain’ is a local affectionate term for child or small person – wee one. This year’s theme is ‘Expect to Connect’ so when you come to one of our events expect to connect with culture, magic, stories, technology, history, heritage, theatre and most of all fun. During the first weekend of the festival, the 5th & 6th of October, we have a packed family programme, for children from birth to 12 years.
