October 5 - October 13

Multiple Locations

Wainfest is an annual arts and book festival dedicated to children across Donegal.  ‘Wain’ is a local affectionate term for child or small person – wee one.

This year’s theme is ‘Expect to Connect’ so when you come to one of our events expect to connect with culture, magic, stories, technology, history, heritage, theatre and most of all fun. During the first weekend of the festival, the 5th & 6th of October, we have a packed family programme, for children from birth to 12 years. Highlights in libraries include a lego academy for budding engineers, music and movement sessions for babies, circus skills and illustrations workshops for budding creatives. Or just chill out and listen to some storytime treats with Mr Hullabaloo. If you want something more interactive try out the augmented reality and take a virtual tour of the history of Letterkenny with Donegal County Museum or visit Hogwarts with the Harry Potter experience in the beautiful Oakfield Park.

If visiting Donegal with your family, please take the opportunity to connect with us and let your journey through Donegal be one you will not forget. Most events are free of charge but where a charge applies it is nominal. Booking lines open in the middle of September.
